The group was formed in 1979, and membership covers a wide geographical area. It's first exhibition was held in the Old Town Hall, with the help of Monsignor Pat Ahern. Early members included professional artists Sirah Larkin, Mary Flynn, Jeremy Tindale, Jane Savage, Mary Delmage, Ronnie Moore, Jane Hilliard, and Elaine Reardon, who worked alongside the enthusiastic amateurs. A member, Helen Shanahan, opened the gallery “Bin Ban”, and the founder of the Wellspring Gallery, Louise O’Donnell, was the daughter of another member, Maeve O’Donnell.

In a typical year the group is likely to put on three exhibitions, in Siamsa Tire, Tralee Library, and one other, which varies. Members of the group employ a wide variety of techniques and styles in their pictures. At monthly meetings artists and speakers give demonstrations, tuition, or talks. Visits to places of interest are arranged, and provides opportunities for members who wish to, get together to paint indoors and in the open air.
