OUR STORY SO FAR
The group was formed in 1979, and membership covers a wide
geographical area. It's first exhibition was held in the
Old
Town Hall
, with the help of Monsignor Pat Ahern, founder member of Siamsa Tire National
Folk Theatre, Tralee. Early members included professional artists Sirah Larkin,
Mary Flynn, Jeremy Tindale, Jane Savage, Mary Delmage, Ronnie Moore, Jane
Hilliard, and Elaine Reardon, who all worked alongside some enthusiastic
amateurs. One member, Helen Shanahan, opened the gallery “Bin Ban” which is
now located on the outskirts of Tralee(Fenit side). Another member, founder of
the Wellspring Gallery, Louise O’Donnell, is the daughter of Maeve
O’Donnell another former member of TAG.
In a typical year the group is likely to put on two or three exhibitions, in
Siamsa Tire,
Tralee
Library, and one other, which varies. Members of the group employ a wide
variety of techniques and styles in their pictures. At monthly meetings artists
and speakers give demonstrations, tuition, or talks. Visits to places of
interest are sometimes arranged. Also members who so wish are given the
opportunity to get together to paint indoors and in the open air.
