TRALEE
ART
GROUP

Promoting art in the community and encouraging new artists of all ages

About

Tralee Art Group (TAG) exists to foster an interest in visual art in Tralee and the surrounding area. It provides a meeting point for artists and arranges various events, exhibitions, occasional outings and painting and sketching workshops for its members.

TAG formed in 1979 and our first exhibition was held in the Old Town Hall, with the help of Monsignor Pat Ahern, founder member of
Siamsa Tíre National Folk Theatre, Tralee.

Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages for the latest information.

Members

Today, TAG counts over 40 members from diverse backgrounds and nationalities who work on all types of media and art forms. We are a voluntary driven group, organising all our activities and outings. From time to time, we have benefitted from mentorship from local artists such as Rebekah Wall, Lisa Fingleton and Rebecca Carroll.

Early members included professional artists Sirah Larkin, Mary Flynn, Jeremy Tindale, Jane Savage, Mary Delmage, Ronnie Moore, Jane Hilliard, and Elaine Reardon, who all worked alongside some enthusiastic amateurs.

One member, Helen Shanahan, opened the gallery “Bin Ban” which is now located on the outskirts of Tralee (Fenit side). Another member, founder of the Wellspring Gallery, Louise O’Donnell, is the daughter of Maeve O’Donnell another former member of TAG.

40 Years

TAG had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate their 40 years in existence with an exhibition in Siamsa Tíre, Tralee, in January 2023.

It was a celebration of the past and present, recognising how artistic creativity has evolved for so many over the last four decades. It was a very special occasion curated by Rebekah Wall.

Light

In 2022, TAG were delighted to organise their first in-person exhibition since 2019.

Light was a wonderful and uplifting display of new artworks created by our members.

The opening night was a great success filled with excitement and a sense of new beginnings.
